How to Migrate from Notion to SimplyBoard
A complete step-by-step guide to moving your notes from Notion.
Switching note apps feels like a big commitment. We get it. That's why we've made migrating from Notion as painless as possible.
This guide walks you through the entire process. It should take about 10-15 minutes, depending on how much content you have.
Before You Start
- Make sure you have admin access to your Notion workspace
- Create a SimplyBoard account at simplyboard.io/auth
- Set aside 10-15 minutes for the migration
Migration Steps
- Export from Notion · Go to Settings → Export all workspace content → Choose Markdown & CSV format.
- Unzip the export · Notion exports a ZIP file. Extract it to see your pages as Markdown files.
- Review your content · Open the Markdown files to see what you have. Remove any you don't need.
- Import to SimplyBoard · Use our import tool to bring in your Markdown files. They become searchable entries.
- Add tags (optional) · Tag your imported entries for easier filtering. Or just rely on search.
Detailed Walkthrough
Step 1: Export from Notion
In Notion, click on "Settings & members" in the sidebar. Scroll down to find "Export all workspace content." Choose "Markdown & CSV" as the export format.
This preserves your formatting while keeping the content portable. The export might take a few minutes if you have a large workspace.
Step 2: Review Your Export
Notion exports everything, including pages you might not need. Take a moment to review the files and delete anything you don't want to bring over.
This is also a good time to consolidate. Multiple small pages on the same topic? Combine them into one entry.
Step 3: Import to SimplyBoard
In SimplyBoard, open the settings menu and select "Import." Drag and drop your Markdown files, or select them from your file browser.
Each file becomes a separate entry. The content is encrypted before being stored · even we can't read your imported notes.
What Gets Preserved
- All text content
- Markdown formatting (headers, lists, code blocks)
- Links (internal links become text)
What About Databases?
Notion databases export as CSV files. SimplyBoard doesn't have databases · it's intentionally simpler. For database content, consider whether you really need the structure, or if the data would work better as searchable text entries.
